CareerOne has a somewhat hidden feature that lets you refine job searches with boolean operators directly in the URL.
Hereβs how it works:
1. Start with a normal search
For example, searching school in the job title field will generate a URL like this:
https://www.careerone.com.au/school-jobs
You can also add other filters (occupation, location, etc.) using the search bar and dropdowns. For instance:
- Job title: school
- Occupation: teacher β secondary
- Location: Sydney, NSW
This gives:
https://www.careerone.com.au/school-jobs-in-education-training-and-childcare/in-sydney-nsw/occ_teacher-secondary
2. Add keyword search (kw)
To add keyword terms, use kw_ followed by your keywords, separated by underscores _.
Example:
kw_science_music
3. Choose the operator (kwo)
By default, multiple keywords act like AND, but you can explicitly set:
- kwo_or β jobs containing science OR music
- kwo_and β jobs containing science AND music
These keywords are searched in both the job title and job body, so they can be a bit noisy unless combined with other filters.
4. Combine everything
Add the keyword section onto the URL from step 1.
Example with school + teacher β secondary + Sydney + (science OR music):
https://www.careerone.com.au/school-jobs-in-education-training-and-childcare/in-sydney-nsw/kw_science_music_kwo_or_occ_teacher-secondary
β οΈ Tips
- This feature only works on keywords β not job title, occupation, or location (those must still be set with the search bar).
- Keywords search the full text of job ads, so results can include some noise. Use occupation and location filters to narrow it down.
- Use _ underscores instead of spaces when adding keywords in the URL.
π Example:
- Search bar: school, teacher β secondary, Sydney NSW
- Add keywords: science OR music
Final URL:
https://www.careerone.com.au/school-jobs-in-education-training-and-childcare/in-sydney-nsw/kw_science_music_kwo_or_occ_teacher-secondary
